Disassembling and Assembling the Sky: 2006 David Colagiovanni

Disassembling and Assembling the Sky 2006
2 Video Projection, Blue Paper, Dot Matrix Printer Paper, Wood, X10 Software and Hardware, Computer and Paper Shredder.

Disassembling and Assembling the Sky is a collaboration with Owen Smith.  Beginning in the Fall of 2006 I began shredding a nine foot roll of blue paper.  The paper was then placed in boxes and shipped to Owen in Bangor, Maine.  Owen received the paper and made three short videos exploring the idea of reassembling the paper back together.  He then recorded the clouds in the Maine sky and shipped the paper and tapes back to me in North Carolina.  The blue in each video was replaced with the sky footage through a process known as keying.  The videos were incorporated into an interactive installation that included a stack of dot matrix paper, a wooden structure with a series of rollers, two video projections, and a paper shredder controlled through X10 software and hardware.
