statement: Through performance and a landscape of various electronic and physical materials my current research investigates freedom and escape through the depiction of flight, floatation and levitation. In my web based works I explore the web as a psychedelic condition and an artificial space. short bio: David Colagiovanni was born in Carver, Massachusetts and has lived in Arizona, Maine, Georgia, Wisconsin and North Carolina. He was awarded his MFA (sculpture & video) at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2005 and received his Bachelor?s of studio art (painting & sculpture) from the University of Maine-Orono in 2002. His work has been exhibited nationally. He is a recipient of the United Arts Council Artist?s Grant (2007), the Figurative Sculpture Award (2004) from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and the Elizabeth Graves Foundation for the studio arts (2000). ?David was formally trained as a painter and sculptor. He continues to make small drawings as well as short run zines but most often works in a combination of sculpture, video and media, projected video, surveillance equipment and X10 home automation.
